Cafe der Provinz

In the quiet Maria-Treu-Gasse 3 in the 8th district, near the Piaristen church, is now a charming creperie, called Cafe der Provinz that could also be somewhere in the south-of-France.
All ingredients they use are organic. You can choose out of 21 savory galettes and 16 sweet crepes or waffles.
They also have organic beers, wines and non alcoholic you can drink while browsing through the books of Bibliothek der Provinz who host regular readings at the cafe.
So enjoy the authentic-tasting French crepes in an authentic french creperie-athmosphere.

On weekends they also have a fabulous brunch, and in the summertime you can sit outside on the street and listen to the romantic churchbells...

Wasted Gay Youth

When a new party series starts it can easily be a very boring night. But not yesterday in the Labris bar, Bieberstrasse 12 - 1st district, at the start of Wasted Gay Youth.
Excellent electro sound and a full house with a great open minded audience of gays, straights, transgenders and all in between,  dancing till the morning. There was even a free hairdresser for all who had not managed to get styled for the evening.
This party will be held once a month and I can hardly expect the next one.

Andy Warhols: Poor Little Rich Girl with Edie Sedgwick

To all the party girls and boys out there:
who has not sometimes a hangover from the night before..hardly you are torturing out of bed and finally you begin to prepare for the next party?! That was almost everydays live of 60s tragic party legend and New York it girl Edie Sedgwick, perfectly put on film by artist Andy Warhol.
Pool Little Rich Girl:
The film takes place in Edie's own apartment. Andy shot two rolls (approx. 70 mins) of Edie as she lay on her bed, talked on the phone and walked around her room.
The first 33 minutes of the film are completely out of focus as Edie wakes up, orders coffee and orange juice, smokes cigarettes does her excercises, takes pills and puts on make up, all done in silence, except for the background music of an Everly Brothers album. The rest is in perfect quality when Edie is finishing her make up, showing off her clothes and describing to her best gay friend Chuck Wein about last nights dream, the next party, what she is thinking about millionairs, men who are after her, eating, shopping and drug behavior and how she had spent her entire inheritance in six month.

Here it is part 6 of 7. But the whole film can be found on youtube. So much fun watching it, maybe while you are also looking for an evening party outfit or fix your make up?
But do it as fabulous as Edie!

Orlando di Castello

Parisian chic in Vienna:
The Orlando di Castello (Freyung 1 in the first district) is a new hip place we all missed in Vienna.
The simply stunning white and relaxed atmosphere was designed by well known Denis Kosutic. You can have breakfast, sweets,  imaginative main dishes, coffee, cocktails and much more.
Recently there is also a bakery in the 19th district in the Obkirchgasse where the in-house French Patisseur Francois de Bol brings his own heavenly creations for sale. (The manager of the Orlando di Castello met him in New York and brought him immediately to Vienna.)

So check it out: http://www.orlandodicastello.com/

Movie about Serge Gainsbourg

You have to watch the new movie about french artist and legend Serge Gainsbourgs life:
In France, he was a national treasure on several fronts: an astonishingly versatile musician, poetic lyricist, outspoken social critic, hilarious celebrity and a maverick pursuer of the high life.
To the rest of the world, he was an ugly-looking bloke with a knack for picking up great-looking women.

However, Gainsbourg's complicated relationship with his most important muse, Jane Birkin (Lucy Gordon), could have been given more prominence.
For it is in the decade leading up to his death in 1991 that Gainsbourg's mercurial behaviour and radical career choices revealed more of the man and the artist than we glimpse here.
But it is worth a visit, and at least you will hear good music and get some great style ideas!

Meat Market feat. Clement Meyer

What a great night yesterday at MEAT MARKET at the „Badeschiff“ club (Donaukanallände between schwedenplatz and Urania, 1st district of Vienna)! A party which is almost a tradition in the Viennese gay scene - it takes place every first Saturday of the month. This time, MEAT MARKET featured Clement Meyer (Get the curse / Paris). They had all brought along their dancing shoes – the prettiest city boys and their friends. And dancing shoes were definitely needed to dance to the great electro sound and make new friends in the cargo hold of the ship, until 6 a.m. ...

I guess I can speak for all guests last night if I say I truly recommend the MEAT MARKET party series!

Van Veinsten

This small cafe, fashioned in the tradition of northern Italian espresso bars, really serves the best tramezzini in town!
Situated on the romantic Franziskanerplatz nr. 3 in the 1st district of Vienna let you feel like you are sitting somewhere on a Piazza in Italy, but also inside with the deep burgundy leather couches, wooden benches and wine bottles stacked in racks is inviting even during the winter when most places seem drab. The audience consists of business people and hipsters and the stuff is always friendly. So check it out, you will love it!

Dirty Disco Youth

When a 19-year-old Austrian is getting into the label Dim Mak Records, it's a sensation! Phil Speiser aka Dirty Disco Youth pays this back on his new EP called OFF:

Allready in 2007, he was hyped as the new “Wunderkind” at the big electro events and a Mexican magazine even awarded him the “best new talent 2007″. So soon he became a heavily requested remixer for indie labels like Great Stuff, King Kong Rec., Dim Mak, Coco Machete as well as major labels. And now, with only 19 years, he did already more official remixes than most other remixer in their entire life. Dim Mak boss and superstar deejay Steve Aoki calls himself one of the first fans of Dirty Disco Youth´s production talent and now signed his Off EP to his hip label with famous acts like Bloody Beetroots, Bloc Party, The Gossip and many more. The EP features a massive set of mad mixes by Fukkk Offf and the much loved Stereo heroes from France plus a cool breaks version by label mate Mustrad Pimp. Currently Phil Speiser is in the studio producing the upcoming Chicks On Speed album. For sure, we will hear a lot more from Phils alter ego Dirty disco Youth!
